Hi. does anyone know the date airshow is going to be in rhyl this year? Thanks
(Posted on 2012-01-16 14:14:00 by Ang)
Hello all,
well the airshow seems like a distant memory already in some ways, but we need to keep the interest and momentum going to ensure an even bigger and better show in 2012.
On a sad note, I'm sure you will all join in sending our deepest condolences to the family of the late Flt Lt John Egging, 'Red 4', who died tragically shortly after partaking in yet another breathtaking display down in Bournemouth.
With that in mind, if anyone wants to order prints of our Red Arrows photos from the show in rhyl, as featured on this site, the full collection of 94 photos is available on photobox galleries :
http://www.photoboxgallery.com/flypastphotography
ANY profit from these photos will go to the RAF Benevolent Fund as a mark of respect to John and his family.
Whatever you decide to do, we hope you enjoyed the photographs.
spitfire and hurricane ...wow what can i say ..fantastic

Dean,
photos should be on by the weekend, however for a sneak preview, follow the link to our website and look in the 'latest uploads' or 'red arrows' albums, some photos in there to keep you going ! We took well over 1700 photos between us over two days so it's taken hours and hours to edit, sort and process them. I'm getting the discs to Gareth on Friday and hopefully he can start uploading to this site. I know he is very busy.
If anyone else has uploading rights to the site and needs the photos sooner, let us know by e-mail through our site.

Well done to Denbighshire council, Fantastic show and it can only be a good advert for the town. Hope it will be back next year. It was a pleasure for Apollo Bingo to support this show.

Hi,
Thanks 1340rhyl /Gareth for your reply, totally understand about the limited budget - hopefully sponsors will see what potential revenue and advertising this show holds and will come forward for future shows, the huge crowds on Sunday show the potential! but thanks for a great show this year!

Gareth,
just in case you didn't get my message, nearly all the photos are ready and you can have them today if you need them, either by e-mail or via photobucket etc. If you don't need them till Wednesday night then we'll stick to plan A. Some nice photos despite the conditions on day 1. About 7 hours sleep over the last 3 nights means they better be up to scratch ! Hopefully people will think they were worth the wait.

well done to all involved i travelled from the midlands by train but it was well worth it for a free airshow!
good to see the spit & hurrican as a replacment for the lanc and excellent display on both days by the JP ,may be next year the vulcan or team viper as well .
I understand the cost but i am sure that this would attract a much larger interest .
Also try a pr company to push the advertising it would pay off.
once again
WELL DONE AAAA++++

Well done to the organisers, for another good effort - despite the weather it went very well. Thought the RAF did well, Red Arrows superb as usual, the late change to the Spitfire & Hurricane were a bonus, acrobatics, parachute dispalys good. A great pity Tony Hodgsons Dragon Spitfire wasn't available - he should be the 'star local attraction'.
There is, however, always room for improvement and my comments would include more catering stands & trade stands (gives people something to do if the displays are time/weather delayed), more advertisiing/more uptodate web info (local paper hardly mentioned it, it would also help people to find parking sites etc). At a higher level is there a need to employ a professional organising firm - OK would cost - but might ease the burden on DCC and volunteers, provide access to a greater number of sponsers - just a thought for going forward. Anyway as a resident I'll be back next year !

Hi RoseB,
Thanks for the good feed back - just one thing about the number of aircraft - we had a limited budget this year and rely on sposors of which we struggled with this year lets hope we do better with them next year . Yes it would be nice to get the Vulcan to the show however at around £14,000 per display we would need to really get help.
regards
Gareth

Excellant Show - first time here and despite the soaking on Saturday it was a great weekend - especially considering its free! well impressed with Sea King / Lifeboat display - great floor display also, really need to improve PA system along seafront, and definately try to get more aircraft - the Vulcan would pull a huge crowd - more promotion and it could be that much bigger and better!

Well done for a great show, weather considered. Advice to future visitors about parking, arrive early and get a good spot because it was a nightmare with idiots parking where ever it suited them, hence all the tickets mentioned earlier,(sorry but no sympathy ) I parked as close to the edge of a drop curb so as to ensure room to get the pram and such out of the boot. What I hadn`t counted on was the "Blue badge means I can park where I want and stuff you brigade"
When I came back I was so blocked in with a blue badge in front and behind with bareley inches in either end ! I was completely trapped in. One had parked in front of the drop curb with total disregard for wheel chair users or prams. This resulted in me having to put more money in the car and take my family all the way back to the prom in the pouring rain. Air show 10/10 . Rhyl 1/10 never coming back!

Congratulations on a great day today (Sunday) despite the weather. Excellent displays. I have seen all this talk about a Lock in crowd and charging. Might this be counter productive? The ammount of people who were at the airshoe today was fantastic until you tried to get into a cafefor a meal afterwards or join the queue for a drink. Surley this cannot all be cash that would have been spent in the town today anyway. All these people contributed to the charities , purchased programmes and the went itno town which cannot be a bad thing. So often charges are placed on free events which ruins it for families with a few kiddies or those on low wages. It cannot all be about grab as much as possiblle of the few who can afford it surely?
(Posted on 2011-08-07 23:13:00 by Ken Nicholson)
Thanks Phil W,was not aware of the Airway, cannot comment further about that as no experience at all.Bad parking was purely for the ones who wanted to watch the Reds and leave the area. and not spend in the town but well worth talking about. After seeing that crash at Broughton years ago,you start to understand more about not parking in bad areas etc and we were lucky as the accident took place in the factory grounds so bad parking for fire fighters was no issue.Look forward to your contact.

TJ,Move it to Prestatyn and lock the people in,and yes they will pay,you will get a far better event when the organizers get some money to spend. What is all this keep it in Rhyl idea?Look to the future not the present or the past. When Tesco start in Prestatyn the retail shopping area of DCC will become Prestatyn. just like any copy cat high street in the UK,they are all the same town after town after town.Prestatyn has the easiest lock in function because there is really only two entrances into the area of Lido Beach,Bastion Road or via Pontins end.Why are you and many others banging on about Rhyl, good shows require many more elements than just a flying display.Decent shops to walk around before the long drive home for many of our visitors. The A55 gateway to North Wales, make sure they stop here and not in the Conway borough area of Llandudno and get our show top notch before they have an idea of hosting one.

Bill - got your details thanks, will email you just 2 quick points, if the police\traffic Gestapo had ticketed 300 odd cars think amount the huge amount of VERY negative publicity that would of created......the press would of had a field day. Thats not to say that it is acceptable however as far as Im concerned that if the police viewed it and made a decision then right or wrong thats it. Also Ive viewed the Prestayn location from the air and there would be major issues with using that area - not impossible but certainly not straight forward including the fact its under an airway - chat soon!

Brilliant day at the air show today, amazing displays, shame about the rain yesterday though :-( got soaked.
My only criticism is that you cannot hear the tannoy when you are sat on the beach with the crowds. So fed up with people complaining about the lack of planes and organisation of parking etc it's a free day out, people volunteer their time to give you that privilege and you get an air display that includes the Red Arrows and various other top aerobatic teams, plus it's a sense of community spirit so shut up complaining and enjoy what is on offer. If you don't like it don't come again! DCC and all the other organisers and supporters do a fab job, credit where credit is due! If people had to pay it wouldn't be half as popular! Keep it in Rhyl and keep it free and roll on next year :-)

totally superb sunday afternoon .the organisers should be proud of the show which seems to get slighltybetter every year ,well done everyone involved

Went along today, what a cracking show. Red Arrows were amazing as were the acrobatics.
I agree with comments about the commentator, for me it wasn't so much that what he was sayin was wrong (only because I have no knowledge on planes myself!) but the case of he talked to much and a lot of it was just nonsense. Keep it a bit more quiet and talk to give us info about the next display or the manouvers the planes are doing.
I don't want to have my head ripped off by Bill jones, but i don't think Prestayn is the place for the airshow. Keep it in Rhyl. What D.C.C need to do is advertise 'Air Show Parking' , put clear signs up and have stewards around who can point people in the right direction of car parks or help people etc. There is ample parking at the Pavilion and along the grassy patch there, also at Alexander hospital as well.
Sort that out along with correctly advertising the right times and it'll become an even greater show.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to just complain I am purly just giving my feedback.
The Airshow at Rhyl is a great family day out, the displays are brilliant, the life boats are great to see out and the displays by RAF etc are very good to walk round in the events area.
Thank you D C C for a lovely weekend.

everyone has commented on how brilliant the red arrows are - yes true, they are the best in the world and the display was absolutely fantastic, but Steve Carver doing the solo aerobatic display was absolutely ace. The stunts he did with his aircraft were beyond belief. How on earth he managed some of them I don't know,(I've seen aerobatics done several time at the airfield my husband flies from) but in my mind, Steve stole the show.

got to rhyl in plenty of time to have a look around, very good, good selection of food available, next find somewhere to sit, easy, by lifeboat st, sat behind 4 "gentlemen" who where sat down, i,ve read the arrows where awsome, i do,nt know, i hardly saw them as these "gents" stood up right in front of us to take their photos with their 2ft long telephoto lenses, we moved 3 times but missed the best cross overs that where apparantly seen by others, the 2 gents who did not consider those folk sat behind them should show a bit more consideration and allow others to enjoy the arrows, apart from my moan, a great show to build upon,

To Mr Parked Car,total idiots like you who have your own set of rules as regards parking.deserve clamping, key scratching and all you get.Have a think about people with a push chair, disabled, fire and other emergencey crews trying to work when a complete spanner like you decides to adopt your own parking law.You are the typical lazy person who could not be bothered to find a place.I left Rhuddlan at 12.40pm and parked quite easy enough at the Alex hospital was at least room for another 20 or so cars even at the late hour.I bet you left after the Reds display and spent the grand total of zero in the town, grow up with such a stupid comment like you posted.

A huge well done and many thanks to all those involved in the organization, of yet another brilliant 2 day event for our enjoyment. It was a pity about the waether on Saturday. Regardless of a thorough drenching, we still sat enthralled and watched it all til the end. Glad the weather held out for today. The Red Arrows were spectacular. Thanks to all the folks, who gave us a fantastic performance, in the skies above Rhyl this weekend. We enjoyed it all . Here's to a bigger show next year , with better weather.
(Posted on 2011-08-07 17:06:00 by pam)
Well, in terms of photography, if a 2 day air event was ever saved by the second day, this was one ! Managed to get much better photos today and we are now starting the long, laborious process of editing, sorting, filing etc. Great 2 days only really spoilt by the weather yesterday. Reds were, as usual, awe inspiring...KEEP YOUR MITS OFF, CAMERON !! So, let's hope next year will be bigger and better, and all think of ways we could help to bring that off. Photos should be on this site by early next week, you won't be disappointed !

To Bill Jones
I cant believe you are moaning at the parked cars on the footways along the prom. I was one of them to watch the display by the Sun centre There was no where else to park. I saw Police cars drive up and down and they understood to turn a blind eye at the time. People understood that it was really busy and took a lot more care. Be glad of the turn out. It will be people like you that will get the event stopped in the future.
(Posted on 2011-08-07 16:58:00 by Parked car)
I went to today's airshow and thought that it was a great day, reds where superb as usual as where the other display items, the only thing that i would say that this event needs is a new commentator, I've attended quite a lot of airshows (nearly 300) and if I'm honest it is the worst commentary i have heard, he seemed to have very little knowledge of the aircraft that where flying and even got aircraft name's wrong at points, and there where many times were a couple of aviation enthusiasts who where stood next to me where correcting what he was saying because a lot of it was incorrect, might only seem a small trivial thing but in my opinion and the opinion of many others i was talking too, for an airshow to be successful it needs to have a commentary team who know what they are talking about and can deliver the correct information to the public, in my opinion this is an issue that needs addressing if there are any future airshows because it can get quite annoying listening to incorrect information being given out, other than that thanks for another good airshow this year.
(Posted on 2011-08-07 16:56:00 by Andy)
Stunning! as ever. Thanks for a wonderful display, see you in 2012 ;-)

(Posted on 2011-08-07 15:46:00 by L S)
One other point about the parking,I had the misfortune many years ago now of seeing an aircraft crashing on take off at an airshow and realize what access is required for such an accident.Older viewers may remember this at the Broughton Show near Chester and the accident investigation branch wanted all our video footage of said crash.
(Posted on 2011-08-07 15:32:00 by Bill Jones)
To Phil W.Two of the young Air Cadets have my email address and handy number for you, they are not sure who you are but they did promise they would pass the info on to an adult for you.Ok being doing some research on the prom for you.First thing I noticed were at least several hundred illegally parked cars, many around the Sun Centre area were also dangerously parked ie on the pavement sticking out on the road etc etc.I drove up and down the prom a few times and this was evident all over.No parking tickets were seen by myself on any vehicle. If you had managed to ticket say 300 at 60 pounds each, would go well towrds a 2012 fund. The crossing by the old Woolies was causing right nightmares until the police support units sorted it out(well done).Back to parking, the illlegal ones who stayed in there cars had dropped in to see the Reds and then were off shopping to Llandudno as I asked many myself for some proper hard facts. There were crowds in Rhyl spending with the local vendors and for a proper 2012 fund they need to contibute back in.Was unhappy to see many cars leaving the area at 2.45pm,I was stuck trying to get back to the Rhuddlan area for ages.Move it to Prestatyn and charge a fee.

Retired Rhyl last year and saw air display from my back garden thought that was good but today some friends were cuming up from Wrexham and met them on front, I was totally transfixed, the Red Arrows were magical, out of this world , in awe, lost for words how to describe their flying a shame they couldnt hear the crowds will remember today untill next year they are the best not only in the world but im sure the universe, not many things make me proud to be british these days but they do, lets just hope the government dont decide to make cuts where they are concerned as they have done to our forces, a true asset to britain well done lads proud of you x

For Ray from the West Midlands, you may be lucky, the Reds are doing two flypasts on the way up to Hawarden, one in the Cotswold area which you will miss but you may catch site of the Shrewsbury one depending if you use the A49 or M6.If you drive in via Hawarden on the A55 you will see them parked up ready for the journey to Rhyl.

I took the children (quite young-easily bored) to the show today. Understood the delay between each showing as weather cannot be expected to be great everywhere. They thoroughly enjoyed the parachutes...but then the heavens opened...we ran...and *gutted* missed the 'noisy jet' as my son put it!! I parked the car along the prom and we got to watch the remaining display through the window (was quite good actually further down that end as we got to see them turning around:) ) Hope the weather is on their side tomorrow...i'm working on a food van but my kids are looking forward to it :)

Thoroughly enjoyed today! Some really good displays and a wonderful surprise to have the Spitfire and Hurricane flying! Could you please confirm which Hurrucane flew?
(Posted on 2011-08-06 21:04:00 by Simon)
I enjoyed today (apart from the rain !) my 2 children really enjoyed themselves with the various stands in the events arena, their only complaint was the climbing wall and paintballing were not there. The arena was full from the start - we came early so that the children could see / do what they wanted in the arena BEFORE the main show started. In this economic climate, people should be thanking DCC for putting the show on, not slating them as it is not "packed" enough for them. They could have quite easily said that they were not having an air show this year, and there would have been ALOT of complaints over that. So for all the people who came today and enjoyed themselves . . . . . . Thnak you DCC for putting on the show.!!!!!!

Im really looking forward to tomorrows air show especially the red arrows we all went last year and it was brilliant. all my grandchildren went today and thought it was that good they are going back tomorrow
(Posted on 2011-08-06 20:41:00 by cath d)
Well me and my family enjoyed it, I think some peoples expectations are to high and they expect a display every 15 mins all day long. If you didn't like it Dawn then don't come back, you won't be missed, i can't make tomorrows display due to a Christening but will be looking forward to next years show.

We came 2 Rhyl Air show 2day & it was the worst show of aircrafts ive ever seen. Ok the weather wasnt good but atleast their should of been more planes displaying. My 7 yr old was also disappointed. We will not be attending tomorrow or in the future. 1st and last time to visit Rhyl Air Show.
(Posted on 2011-08-06 20:04:00 by Dawn)
Cath,If we can get a decent amount of some funding off local firms,an enrty fee in the early days need not apply.Approach them correctly and sell the benefit to them they will add a few bob to a kitty, you have to lock the people in to get them spending. How it worked for me when my kids were younger and they still want to go now with there own children.Southport in those days was a fiver a car full, full packed lunch with plenty of sarnies, drinks, sweets, crisps etc.Fair wrist band for each of my two costing approx a tenner each, that kept them amused for hours, they wandered in and out of the tented village to watch and enjoy ground events. They went home well satisfied with plenty of freebies from the exhibitors and asking can we go tomorrow as well.I could only afford one of the two days.

Phill G, apology's, I was writing my coment as you posted yours.
May I suggest that you mention to the events committee that nobody who want's a good spot to sit will leave it until the last 10 minutes to arrive!
People love the air show, it' s free and a good day out. There is plenty to see in the events arena, there's the beach and the air show itself. People will come for the day out and certainly will not leave it until the last ten minutes to arrive.

yes, I do agree to an extent I've lived here for 10 years now & I think the improvement we have seen are very good for the area but I have to disage abut it moving to prestatyn & being a paid enty event because I personly would not beabe to afford to go then especially with 2 young children.

I have atteneded to the Airshow in Rhyl for the previous two years and have always found them to be a very enjoyable experience. As an amateur photographer I enjoy the variety of planes. My only complaint about the show was the advertised times. I was there at 11 today expecting the planes to start coming at 12 only to find out the actual air show didn't start until 2! This was not advertisd on the flyers or posters, we were simply told the show started at 12. May I suggest next year you advertise the time that display stands open and the time air displays start. Many people around where I was sitting had been there a while also and were also expecting a 12 start. I don't mind sitting down for an hou or so waiting but parents with children who get agitated struggle.
That said, I enjoyed myself today even if the weather did ruin any chances of good photo's! I am certainly looking forward to going again tomorrow, thankfully I purchased a program today and so I know it starts at 1!

Cath, you are blinkered, lived here all my life apart from a brief visit abroad for a wee bit.I am supporting the DCC area,it does not need to be Rhyl.Prestatyn has a better capture area to lock people in for a paid entry event. If you get this right you need the areas of Rhyl Promenade as well.Southport uses a huge expanse of the front as when they do those high powered speed runs they need plenty of space.I am not knocking Rhyl as I live here,I want it back as much as you do,nice walk on the pier, past the pavillion etc,all gone.

Bill I'm proud as a local tax payer to help pay for & put on Rhyl Air Show & Fun in the Sun. Its people like you who are making Rhyl a Ghost town because you will not suport Rhyl.

To Phil W,No need for me to watch it,seen them all before that many times. Will watch the Reds tomorrow and I have no intention of doing the event down as enough are coming forward now to do it for me.It stands out like a sore thumb you are trying to fill a gallon drum with just a couple of pints. You have enough for half a day tops end of,it also is in the wrong place.Prestatyn should be hosting this as a paid entry event situated on the grass at Lido beach for the statics and ample car parking plus loads of park and ride places in Rhyl.Pontins for an over night stay deal.Close all link roads in and you get your paid for entry fee.The tight wads out there can do what they do in Southport, watch but miss out on the fun in the village set up on the sand.Once Tesco move into Prestatyn,Rhyl high street will become a ghost town as the big retailers will follow the spending public, kid yourself any way you want but that is what will happen. We will not produce a Southport over night or should not even try but I stick to my Festival of Transport idea with a modest fee of a fiver a car full like the good old days in Southport. There is no such thing as a free event,we as local council tax payers are paying.A family on a visit from the North West are paying out a fair few pounds as well with fuel/food etc, treat them with respect and at least give them something decent to watch for the effort they made to drive down in the first place.Never bite the hand that feeds you, plenty of other places for them to visit and spend there hard earned.

Re the 12pm issue - I will raise the point to the Events Commitee however they will say that they dont want everyone leaving it to the last 10mins to arrive HOWEVER with the flying always going to start at 2pm on the Saturday I think that it was a little excesive.
Shame Bill thought you were going to meet me today? I'll be there for some time tomorrow. I wouldnt like to think your going to criticise the event without actually seeing it!!
Some of the comments below are very shortsighted - as explained the Lancaster was withdrawn by the RAF a while ago and replaced with a Dakota, that unfortunately went 'tech' so the BBMF replaced that with a Spitfire AND a Hurricane (late on Friday!) who did very well to get here in spite of the heavy showers around the area.
The Jet Provost did a fly past whist on route to an airfield to refuel to check the venue as he hasnt been in this area before. He returend later to do a very good display despite one end of the display line being in drizzle!
As far as I could see everything that was expected to display did.
I do wish people would get their facts straight before slagging the organisers off on this web site.

Show was advertised to start at 12.00, but the flying did not start until 14.00!
We turned up for 12 when the show was supposed to start, but were just sat there looking out to sea for a bit as there was nothing but seagulls in the sky. Then nothing till about 1.30 when a jet provost made one low pass and headed off. Maybe he got bored as well. Then nothing happened again. Stared out to sea a bit a more, stared at the weather heading in from the west, stared at the time. A plane did turn up about 2.00 but had lost interest by then and got on the bike a went for a ride.So what went wrong. Saw the show in 2009 and that was ok but continental drift would have out paced todays efforts.

Well, I may have got a bit wet but so what, we got a Hurricane as well as a spitfire and the other displays were good too. Just got back after watching the Air-sea rescue and lifeboat demo and looking forward to tomorrow now. As long as the weather doesn't interfere with the show I won't mind getting wet again. An enjoyable afternoon, let's hope tomorrow runs smoothly too, cheers!

Looking forawrd to watching the Air show!
(Posted on 2011-08-06 11:25:00 by Sophie)
Come on Thomas, you have to take things on face value and get things into perspective. We also travel all over the UK and indeed all over the world attending airshows, air days, open days etc for our photography. This is a small, locally arranged event designed more at attracting visitors and locals alike to just enjoy the limited display and other attractions. It's like comparing the menu of a small lorry drivers' cafe with that of the Savoy Hotel...just because they both serve food !
As the quote goes...build it and they will come...hopefully !

I visited the air show last year and have to say how disapointed i was. I do travel around the counrty to watch air shows as i am a fan. I must say that the Rhyl show was the poorest one i have ever seen.

Thanks for the answer RE: The Dragon Spitfire, a pity it couldn't be here but hey, look what you've managed to do instead, a BBMF Spitfire! Well done to yourselves and the BBMF for arranging this at what must be very short notice and thanks for putting the info. on here as soon as you could. Looking forward to this afternoon now, let's hope it stays fine and dry for the displays!

I missed the airshow last year but all my mates working at the show and visiting the show said that had such an amazing time so this year i'm not going to miss it should be a good few days :)

I wish the Rhyl Show good luck for the coming weekend, myself I am poping down to the Cold War Musuem at RAF Cosford.

Well, as far as I am concerned this event is a positive for the town, no matter what the weather throws at us, no matter which timings are published or not published, the mere fact it has remained in place for another year in these times of austerity is an achievement in itself. I am 49 years old and Rhyl born and bred, as were my parents, and I am sick to the back teeth of the bad publicity the town has had to endure...most of which has not been of our own doing. At least arranging events like the airshow weekend is a move forward and a way of bringing people together.
So lets keep our fingers crossed for an enjoyable 2 days, and look to the future when the organisers can hopefully continue to build on the foundations they have set down.
See you all there !!
cant wait for the show. seems to be a lot of moaners on hear about the show. its great to get people into rhyl and something different for the residents of rhyl to get out and about in their own town instead of travelling out of town for something to do. the moaners should just embrace it. so what if its not as good as another show elsewhere. its better than nothing and its still very entertaining. some people are never happy. my family and i are very much looking forward to waking over the bridge to the sea front to watch :-)

Date details now added
Sgt Atc Culley
1340 (Rhyl) Squadron
Hi. does anyone know the date airshow is going to be in rhyl this year? Thanks
Hello all,
well the airshow seems like a distant memory already in some ways, but we need to keep the interest and momentum going to ensure an even bigger and better show in 2012.
Thanks,
Dave & Caz
spitfire and hurricane ...wow what can i say ..fantastic
Hi thanks for the reply bolar got to say it was a grate day shame about weather but we are in wales :-)
had a lovely day out with family. the red arrows take the cake. the ladies on the breitling were fantastic.
thankyou for a fantastic display
Dean,
photos should be on by the weekend, however for a sneak preview, follow the link to our website and look in the 'latest uploads' or 'red arrows' albums, some photos in there to keep you going !
Dave & Caz

you really need to upload some 2011 photos
sunday airshow was a fab day out and my favorite had to be the red arrows.and a big thanks to DISCO DAVE AKA DAVE THE RAVE. ALSO CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR. SEE YOU ALL THERE. CALLUM BARRY BRIDGE.
RoseB
Gareth,
just in case you didn't get my message, nearly all the photos are ready and you can have them today if you need them, either by e-mail or via photobucket etc. If you don't need them till Wednesday night then we'll stick to plan A. Some nice photos despite the conditions on day 1. About 7 hours sleep over the last 3 nights means they better be up to scratch ! Hopefully people will think they were worth the wait.
Dave & Caz
well done to all involved i travelled from the midlands by train but it was well worth it for a free airshow!
good to see the spit & hurrican as a replacment for the lanc and excellent display on both days by the JP ,may be next year the vulcan or team viper as well .
I understand the cost but i am sure that this would attract a much larger interest .
Also try a pr company to push the advertising it would pay off.
once again
WELL DONE AAAA++++
do you think there will be another airshow in rhyl next year ?? hope so !

Anyway as a resident I'll be back next year !
an absolute brilliant day out at rhyl airshow, my family loved it especialy my 2 year ols grans son,,,what date is the 2012 rhyl airshow ???
Hi RoseB,
Thanks for the good feed back - just one thing about the number of aircraft - we had a limited budget this year and rely on sposors of which we struggled with this year lets hope we do better with them next year .
Excellent two days, well done to the people who gave up their time to organise this event again..... you must be very proud
another fantastic time at rhyl airshow for us and our family had 2 great days even the rain did'nt put us off well done to all
had a great day. our children loved it, even the 8 year old who never sits still!!!!
we parked up no problem at all, dont know why people are getting their knickers in a twist!!!!!!!!!!!! LAZY probably. looking forward to next year. thank you to all involved.
well what a great day had by all :-)
We watched the m fly in the sky .it was good how they were wing walking on the wings. fab day . waing now for next year. thank you all we loved it. siobhan bridge. p.s. massive thanks to dave le taxi,
Had a fantastic day at Rhyl, The Red Arrows where amazing , the stars of the show, the display was fantastic and we can't wait till next year to see them again xx
Many many thanks to all involved for a lovely weekend of flying displays and ground events. We all had a wonderful time and visited on both days. Already looking forward to 2012's Airshow :0)
Thank you D C C for a lovely weekend.
was a fantastic afternoon with so many fantastic displays. had me cringing when they were directly flying towards each other. wow. what an afternoon. counting down now for next year. dave, dawn, siobhan callum ,mia. see you all next year.

Thank you D.C.C. and sponsors. What a fab event. We had a great weekend at the show but have to say the Red Arrows stole the show today. Fantastic. :0)
everyone has commented on how brilliant the red arrows are - yes true, they are the best in the world and the display was absolutely fantastic, but Steve Carver doing the solo aerobatic display was absolutely ace. The stunts he did with his aircraft were beyond belief. How on earth he managed some of them I don't know,(I've seen aerobatics done several time at the airfield my husband flies from) but in my mind, Steve stole the show.
got to rhyl in plenty of time to have a look around, very good, good selection of food available, next find somewhere to sit, easy, by lifeboat st, sat behind 4 "gentlemen" who where sat down, i,ve read the arrows where awsome, i do,nt know, i hardly saw them as these "gents" stood up right in front of us to take their photos with their 2ft long telephoto lenses, we moved 3 times but missed the best cross overs that where apparantly seen by others, the 2 gents who did not consider those folk sat behind them should show a bit more consideration and allow others to enjoy the arrows, apart from my moan, a great show to build upon,
FANTASTIC!!!! loved it all esp the Red Arrows they really are awesome. Thanks for a great day out so looking forward to next year.
Dave & Caz
To Bill Jones
I cant believe you are moaning at the parked cars on the footways along the prom. I was one of them to watch the display by the Sun centre There was no where else to park. I saw Police cars drive up and down and they understood to turn a blind eye at the time. People understood that it was really busy and took a lot more care. Be glad of the turn out. It will be people like you that will get the event stopped in the future.
Stunning! as ever. Thanks for a wonderful display, see you in 2012 ;-)
Brilliant show, the Red Arrows were incredible,
One other point about the parking,I had the misfortune many years ago now of seeing an aircraft crashing on take off at an airshow and realize what access is required for such an accident.Older viewers may remember this at the Broughton Show near Chester and the accident investigation branch wanted all our video footage of said crash.
There were crowds in Rhyl spending with the local vendors and for a proper 2012 fund they need to contibute back in.Was unhappy to see many cars leaving the area at 2.45pm,I was stuck trying to get back to the Rhuddlan area for ages.Move it to Prestatyn and charge a fee.
two great day's ,got wet yesterday but was worth it just to see Spitfire its a wonderful sound and today rain held off untill the end, reat show today as well.
well done to all concerned, roll on next year???????
Retired Rhyl last year and saw air display from my back garden thought that was good but today some friends were cuming up from Wrexham and met them on front, I was totally transfixed, the Red Arrows were magical, out of this world , in awe, lost for words how to describe their flying a shame they couldnt hear the crowds will remember today untill next year they are the best not only in the world but im sure the universe, not many things make me proud to be british these days but they do, lets just hope the government dont decide to make cuts where they are concerned as they have done to our forces, a true asset to britain well done lads proud of you x
BRILLIANT! hope it's back next year :) red arrows are fantastic!!! and so is everything else!
just watched the red arrows fly past my house dead low and it was the best ever air show well done you deserve a well done i can hear planes as i am typing!! they are awsome the greatest year so far !! well done
For Ray from the West Midlands, you may be lucky, the Reds are doing two flypasts on the way up to Hawarden, one in the Cotswold area which you will miss but you may catch site of the Shrewsbury one depending if you use the A49 or M6.If you drive in via Hawarden on the A55 you will see them parked up ready for the journey to Rhyl.
the weather is NICE :) Lets hope it stays this way
LL18 for sat nav there are carparks at the harbour & the high school. parkin a fiver so I belive (don't qoute me I walk in) & free bus to event. prob won't cancelle but I carn't be sure. Have fun RAF were giving out free poncho's yesterday.
We`re coming from the midlands,is there any chance it will cancel cos of weather ? and what`s the post code for the sat nav?
I took the children (quite young-easily bored) to the show today. Understood the delay between each showing as weather cannot be expected to be great everywhere. They thoroughly enjoyed the parachutes...but then the heavens opened...we ran...and *gutted* missed the 'noisy jet' as my son put it!! I parked the car along the prom and we got to watch the remaining display through the window (was quite good actually further down that end as we got to see them turning around:) ) Hope the weather is on their side tomorrow...i'm working on a food van but my kids are looking forward to it :)
just wondering did the BBMF Dakota go today ?
I hear someone say a "merlin" could that be right?
Thoroughly enjoyed today! Some really good displays and a wonderful surprise to have the Spitfire and Hurricane flying! Could you please confirm which Hurrucane flew?
I enjoyed today (apart from the rain !) my 2 children really enjoyed themselves with the various stands in the events arena, their only complaint was the climbing wall and paintballing were not there. The arena was full from the start - we came early so that the children could see / do what they wanted in the arena BEFORE the main show started. In this economic climate, people should be thanking DCC for putting the show on, not slating them as it is not "packed" enough for them. They could have quite easily said that they were not having an air show this year, and there would have been ALOT of complaints over that. So for all the people who came today and enjoyed themselves . . . . . . Thnak you DCC for putting on the show.!!!!!!
well said bill. So does anyone know if Prince Wiliam was flying in the sea king today?
Paul, your attitude is what is expected of a dip switch. You have no right to insult the lady, she said as she found and what do you do,well if you do not like it do not come back.reel your neck in and allow people there findings good or bad.To make things better you find the cause of the illness
Im really looking forward to tomorrows air show especially the red arrows we all went last year and it was brilliant. all my grandchildren went today and thought it was that good they are going back tomorrow
*Phil W not Phil G
I agree compleatly Phil, I love Rhyl Air Show & think its FANTASTIC cos its FREE! everyone should just enjoy the beautiful air craft that are on disply! I'm really looking forward to tomorrows show. Long Live Rhyl Air Show :)
Just to let you know the show was advertised to start Saturday at 13.30 & sunday 12pm.
Fantastic airshow today dispite the rain!
I'm desprate to know if it was Prince William in the sea king! does anyone know?
Carn't wait till tomorrow & thank you to the RAF for my free poncho!
xxx
Show was advertised to start at 12.00, but the flying did not start until 14.00!
I've created a group on Flickr for everyone to share their photos from today.

Thanks
Paul Clarke you could have come up to RAF Cosford with me,great free attraction loads to see and just pay for the car park, happy days.
such a shame the weather didnt hold out :(
love how paul clarke "the dink below" who has commented at 2.09pm when the show only started at 2pm, you fool
well just back from day one of air show..what a massive disapointment,lancaster?dekota?..hang on bbmf spitfire showin on web page for saturday?..no..all no shows.livin in rhyl its an embarressment..please down hold the event if u cant get the acts.its like turnin up to the theatre and watchin an empty stage.yes weather..well maybe.too easy to use that as an excusex
Looking forawrd to watching the Air show!
I missed the airshow last year but all my mates working at the show and visiting the show said that had such an amazing time so this year i'm not going to miss it should be a good few days :)
please dedicate the red arrows fly over to a good freind of mine who died sadly this week MARK GUEST FROM HOLLYWELL
Come on web updaters, get updating your viewing public want to know.the Blackpool show has it,s times listed although they have managed to get all theres i in a 2 hour display over just the Sunday.
